John Jackson, Chief of Department
I have lived in East Fishkill my entire life and have been a member of the East Fishkill Fire District since 1992. Firefighting and volunteer community service have been in my life for generations and I'm proud to be a part of it. I have worked my way up through the ranks of the Fire District starting as a Lieutenant and now, as of January 8, 2025, District Chief.
I am married and have had the privilege of living and raising my daughter and son on our family's dairy farm right here in Hopewell Junction.
I am passionate about serving my community through the role of District Chief. I strive to make safety a top priority for the residents of this town and the thousands of people who commute through or work in this area every day.
EFFD is one of the largest volunteer fire organizations in the State and Country. EFFD is responsible to protect and serve two main highways intersecting in our area - the Taconic State Parkway and Interstate 84. Due to our large coverage area, we have a high call volume - answering over 3,100 alarms in 2024.
We must have a very aggressive training program here at EFFD, in order to be prepared for the worst possible incidents at any given time. We conduct monthly District Drills, as well as individual Company weekly training.
Our department has many divisions that actively serve the community, which include but are not limited to:
- Firefighters
- Rescue Squad
- Fire Police
- Fire Investigation
- Support Group
- Special Operations Unit
If you see any of our dedicated volunteers around town, thank them for their service! If you are interested in volunteering yourself to help this great cause, stop by one of our fire stations on a Monday night!
